Qualified Member of Staff (Fire Alarm Installation Controlle Print E-mail
The reliability of a fire alarm installation in a building depends on the frequency of failures in the installation, false or uncalled for alarms. It is not so much the technical part of the fire alarm installation, as its poor control and maintenance that is responsible for these unwanted alarms. The NEN 2654-1 standard lists the requirements for adequate control, inspections and maintenance of an installation. The NEN 2654-1 standard entrusts the tasks and responsibilities connected with an installation to a Fire Alarm Installation Controller – a Qualified Member of Staff (QMS). This person is charged with the day-to-day control of the installation and also liaises with those departments that are involved in the functioning of the fire alarm installation and the procedures of raising a fire alarm. Users of fire alarm installations that pass on the alarm to the fire brigade are usually obliged to maintain their installations in compliance with the NEN 2654-1 standard. This means that the organisation must have at least one Fire Alarm Installation Controller available. A Controller also makes a contribution to the fire safety in the company or institution.
