Maintenance of emergency lighting Print E-mail

Emergency lighting is an essential part of the safety facilities in buildings where people (may) be present and its function is to make a safe evacuation possible.

The proper functioning of each emergency light unit has to be checked regularly in accordance with the EN 1838 standard. Its fragile components have to checked and replaced before they can cause problems. Emergency lighting is only as reliable as the inspections and maintenance it is subjected to.

Ask us for a free quotation for the annual maintenance of your emergency lighting.

The following work is carried out during the annual maintenance:

Visual inspection of the emergency lighting, checking that the proper pictograms are in place, inspection of their condition, inspection of the battery and its age, inspection of the lamp(s), checking if it switches to battery operation when the electricity supply is cut, measuring the light output.

In accordance with the EN 1838 standard the emergency lighting should stay on for one hour, its so-called autonomous functioning.

Batteries suffer from charging, discharging and the heat given off by lamps and should  therefore be replaced every five years in order to guarantee the one-hour autonomous functioning of the lighting.

The following work is carried out when overhauling the emergency lighting:

            *          Replacing the battery

            *          Measuring charging current and voltage

            *          Replacing starters, if necessary

            *          Replacing lamps, if necessary

            *          Re-attaching mountings, if necessary
